Best Free Attractions in London

Although in recent years London has come under fire as being one of the most expensive cities to visit in the world, it is actually one of the top cities in the world when it comes to free attractions too. From world-class museums and art galleries, to Royal Parks, not to mention the markets, and historical buildings and architecture, there is so much you can see and do in London without spending a single penny. A simple internet search will throw up many different options for tourists but, in our opinion, here is a good place to start:-

This has to be one of the best attractions in the whole of London, home to millions of artefacts. They regularly hold free talks and workshops and for families there are a whole host of activities to get involved with every day from activity trails to multimedia guides.

The British Museum

Visit one of the UKs most iconic buildings and attend a debate, watch a committee hearing or, for permanent UK residents, why not book a tour or Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben?

Houses of Parliament

This is the worlds largest maritime museum and entry is free to the museum, the Queens House and the Astronomy Centre at the Royal Observatory. There are some charges for the additional exhibitions but with so much to see in the museum alone, you would be hard pressed to find the time to do anything else! Discover what made Britain so great at sea and head off on your own ocean adventure by firing a cannon or steering a ship into port.

National Maritime Museum

This amazing military tradition takes place every day through the summer months and every other day in the winter in the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace. Be there at 11.30am to see the full changing of the Queens Guard.

Changing of the Guard

One for the Da Vinci Code fans, or anyone with an interest in the Templar Knights; this church was built in the 12th century by crusading monks and is an interesting and diverse piece of Londons history.

Temple Church

London is well-known for its diverse and interesting street markets and there is a wealth to choose from depending on your tastes. The most popular are Portobello Market and Camden Market but Greenwich Market and Borough Market are also well worth exploring if you have the opportunity.

Street Markets

Of course, if you dont mind walking the streets there are a number of iconic buildings which can be viewed from the outside without paying any entrance fees. These include Buckingham Palace, St Pauls Cathedral, the London Eye and many more. Why not create your own walking tour of London and see how many famous landmarks you can find?

When visiting London, make sure you book your hotel well in advance to ensure you can get a great deal. For a luxury special offer, our top tip is to visit the hotels official website as they often run internet-only deals which can only be obtained through the hotel directly; a fantastic way to book contemporary and quality overnight accommodation at a great price.
