I used more software than hardware whilst producing either of my magazines. But I used more software for my music magazine than the College magazine because I had to present my work in different ways. I found that I used more software in the planning and evaluation stages than in the production stage as Photoshop was the main programme I used to create the actual pages in both cases. I think I used more software for my music magazine as the College magazine was just a practise whereas the music magazine was more of a challenge so required different programmes to be used.

I learnt a lot through making my magazine due to the programmes I was introduced to.

Simple programmes.

I used more hardware whilst producing my music magazine as I had more time to make it better and improve my work. So through using different devices, I could show my work in different ways and use things such as lights to improve the quality of my photographs, as if they were shot in a studio.

I only used the basic devices needed to create my College magazine instead of experimenting with other things.

This is why my College Magazine looks rough and rushed, because I created it using only the essentials so that it met the criteria.

I wouldn’t of been able to create either of my magazine pages if I didn’t have the technology.

I tried to use different technologies to present and record both my planning and research and the evaluation of my pages. I did this by using a microphone to do voiceovers on videos, I felt this was easier to do altogether and I was able to get my point across quicker and explain my reasons without it being in a long paragraph of text, which people wouldn’t bother to read. By recording my work in different ways, I was able to learn how to use new things.

I have used a lot of software to produce my music magazine, this is because ways of presenting work have become more virtual so everything is based on the computer. This is an advantage as it enables me to be quicker whilst producing the work, meaning I can get more done. This came in when I was at the research and planning stage as I had a period of time when I had to do as much useful research as possible, to make sure my music magazine would have a target audience and compare it to others on the market already. I have learnt many things through using different types of technology, and my skills built up whilst I was creating my final pages.

As the table shows, I used more technology in the research and planning stage than the production stage. This is because the production stage was mainly based around Photoshop CS3. This was when my skills in using Photoshop increased as I was able to try new things to be able to get the effects I wanted so that my magazine looked like other professional ones.

The internet has played a big part in the whole process of designing my music magazine, from the start when I was planning and during the production of the pages. This is because I used the wide range of information about other existing magazines to gain ideas and inspiration. I then was able to take those ideas and use them for my own magazine and display my work on an online Blog. I have learnt how a Blog works and found it very simple and interesting using it. I found that with this technology, I was able to update my Blog anywhere through my smart phone or anywhere I had internet access. It enabled me to upload photos, videos and text to explain my work in more detail. At the start of the project, I thought that using a Blog would get confusing and my work would be hard to keep track of but I have found it to be very easy to maintain as all you have to do is save it and make sure it is backed up on a memory stick. I have used a memory stick at all stages of the project incase the computer systems failed and I lost all my work, fortunately this didn’t happen but it was useful to keep copies of my work anyway.
