Where?
Blogs often link to other blogs (down the side)
Technorati has a listing of blogstracking 112 million blogs Dec 2007
Google Blog searchhttp://google.com.au more blogs
How do I keep up with all that?
Use a ''feed reader''Blogs produce a ''feed'' that you can subscribe to using a feed reader
Can quickly see which posts you haven't read yet
Google Reader
Sign up is easy as already have Google Account
Goto http://gmail.com
Click on 'Reader' at the top between 'Web' and 'more'.
Now scroll down a little to see some recommended items.
After scrolling a long way I found a blog I wish to subscribe to. Click on 'Lifehacker', below the title of the article, after 'from'
Click on the 'Subscribe' box to subscribe
You are now subscribed to ' Lifehacker'. Click on 'Dismiss' to remove the yellow message.
Going to the actual Lifehacker web site looks like this. Scroll down...
Here is the post that we could read in Google Reader. It is formatted differently, but the image and the text are the same.
Now go to the blog for this tour. http://helpfulpaul.blogspot.com/ The the end of the address bar is an orange symbol: a dot and two curves. This is the RSS icon. Click on it. (With Internet Explorer the RSS icon is localed somewhere else near the top of the screen. You'll have to find it and click on it.)
Click on 'Subscribe to 'helpful Paul Atom'...
Make sure it says 'Google' and click 'Subscribe Now'
You should see this screen. However...
If you see this screen Google hasn't realised you have a Google Reader account. Click 'Sign Out' at the top right and go back to http://gmail.com and login again. Then go to teh blog for this tour and cick on the RSS icon again, etc
Click on 'Add to Google Reader'.
You are now subscribed to the blog for this tour.
You can collapse the menus on the left by clicking on the squares with the '' in them
Go to http://www.abc.net.au/rn/backgroundbriefing/ and click on the RSS icon
Google is not an option. So we'll have to cut and paste the feed address directly into Google Reader.
Highlight the address and copy it.
Go back to Google Reader and click on 'Add a Subscription'
Paste the address into the box.
Click 'Add' (next to the address you just pasted in).
You are now subscribed to the Background Briefing feed. If you click on the play symbol the programme will start playing.
You can scroll down to listen to previous weeks.
