Gregg Morrow (Manukau)
RIMS Conference March 2013
What Does TSA Stand For ?
T – is for TERRIFICS – is for SOUTH
A – is for AUCKLANDER!!!!!
RIMS Conference March 2013
Questions
Show of hands who knows what TSA does? Who uses TSA? What do you use the outputs for? Who wants to know more about it? Have the results been useful?
RIMS Conference March 2013
The Project
Just underway, reconfirming objectives, literature review work done
Steering Group – Gordon Hart, Jim McQueen, John Hallet, Theuns Henning, Mike Tapper, Matt Hendry, Mathew Rodwell, Gregg Morrow
Purpose/ Objective To improve the algorithm, better forecast timing and treatment
of works, maintain road in good condition, least whole of life cost, short to medium term
RIMS Conference March 2013
Research To Address
Algorithm dated, still current?, have things changed? Reality check on outputs, what intervention levels are driving
treatments, is this reflected in the algorithm? LTPP site information, lots of data, reflected in algorithm? Are pavement and surface condition measurement techniques still
valid, replace with more modern methods? Change in economic analysis parameters Algorithm should reflect current knowledge and recent experience Progression of maint. needs should be evidence based
RIMS Conference March 2013
Key Outcomes
Review the usefulness of the current TSA
How being used, where not, why?
Gather practitioners recommendations for improvements, reasons
Consider LTTP findings
RIMS Conference March 2013
Key Outcomes
Develop improved algorithms that: Optimise whole of life costs
3yr forecasts
Recommend need for reactive and planned works
Reflect risk of delaying works, classification based
Simple and effective reflecting impact of variables on work programmes
RIMS Conference March 2013
Key Outcomes
Develop improved algorithms that reflect the: Current economic parameters
Context of sites (urban/ rural?)
Current and forecast traffic demand
Road classification and LOS
Benefits of seal widening/ shape correction or similar associated improvements with maint. or renewal works
Findings from LTTP programme for characterising strength or capacity of pavements.
