Track anything and everything using GPS
Introduction:
Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation tool for locating places,
objects in any part of the globe with the help of a space satellite. The
control center of GPS comprises of a master control station, four ground
antennas, six monitor stations and an alternate master control.
GPS was initially used by military for locating of the enemy bases and now
it has come to user segments. User interface should posses a receiving
and transmitting port integrated with software. A signal from the user
interface is sent to the satellites and the satellite gets the information
regarding the location and sends back the user interface where the data is
retrieved. GPS now come to several usage and serves in various fields.
Types of tracking devices in GPS:
1. Data Loggers: These are GPS devices where the information stored
is stored in internal memory and data is retrieved in a PC. Data
loggers these days have memory card slot or USB port. Digital
Cameras are example for this.
2. Data Pushers: These are the most commonly used GPS devices
these days and used for fleet tracking, car tracking. They consist of
user interface, tracking device and tracking server. These give instant
messages to cell and PC in form of SMS, GPRS.
3. Data Pullers: Data pullers are similar to the data pushers and send
regular messages to cell phones using push technology. These are
used for tracking the object code signal which is not known like theft
of cars, property.
GPS used in business:
Recent trend has seen GPS being used in business for tracking their
containers, vehicles for delivery of goods, reaching customer location on
time. The GPS trackers use a user interface, tracking device and
tracking server. These are of two types’ passive tracking and active
tracking.
The passive tracking consist of GPS connected to the vehicle and the data
is retrieved only after the vehicle reaches its destination, whereas the
active type consists of a tracking server provided with a software which
gives instant messages regarding the position. These kind of GPS devices
are used in fleet tracking, container tracking.
With the help of GPS tracking device it helps to know the condition of the
vehicle, the fuel present in it, opening and closing of doors and so on. The
GPS mainly works with help of Google Maps and helps as a great
navigation tool by providing the direction to reach the destination. This
device also helps to monitor whether the employee is working properly and
also stores the past performance data like customer complaint.
GPS software is loaded in mobile phones with the help of Android software.
Several free GPS software is available in internet and can be availed for
trial basis. The GPS software also allows external images to be placed with
help of a scanner.
Use of GPS in sports:
GPS devices are used to find the pulse rate, blood pressure rate for
athletes during exercise sessions. While cycling the route at which you are
heading is detected and also it helps to bring you back on track if you’re
lost. GPS devices are also used in water games to locate the position of
the boats and also the direction where they are heading.
Usage of GPS in military operations:
GPS has come into great usage especially for combating expeditions in
dark. The usage of GPS Truth Data Acquisition System by US has it
made easier to locate their army helicopters, personnel when lost. GPS
Tracking devices are kept in the bags of each soldier before going for
combat.
