Toad for IBM DB2 v6.0 What’s New – Part I

• Did you know that Toad recently got a face lift? We’ve streamlined it and removed all of those icon bars that used to clutter up the screen so now they only appear when you need them.

• How do you know when you are going to run out of space or if you need to make new storage purchases?

• How do you keep track of the differences between the database objects in production vs pre-production? Is keeping those in sync a task you do often?.

Benefit Feature

New User Interface This makes Toad easier to use and allows users to find key functionality faster. Icon toolbars open in context and only when that tool is being used, reducing screen clutter. For example, the toolbar for the SQL Editor will only be displayed while the user is working in the SQL Editor otherwise it is “hidden” from view.

Predictive Space Growth Report Users can now predict how much size and space their objects will need. Users control this view by date or by size limit so you can predict how large an object will be on a given date or the date when an object will reach a certain size.

Object Compare & Sync Object compare now fully replaces the old Schema Compare. Users can still do a full compare at the schema level but they will use Toad’s object compare instead. This adds a lot more flexibility in what can be compared and what to ignore when doing the comparison.

These are the top new features and benefits in Toad for IBM DB3 v6.0

Toad for IBM DB2 v6.0 What’s New – Part II

• Do you have pureScale? How do you keep track of what’s happening in your pureScale environment? How do you know when to add another node or if you have too many defined?

• What do you use to find out activity on a production table? For example, if you need to know how often it’s being read or getting updated? Would this be useful information?

• Do you have any third party applications that do not allow you to rewrite the SQL? Does simply rewriting the SQL not yield the performance improvement you need? Well now SQL Optimizer allows you the ability to apply indexes as a way to improve performance when rewrites are out of the question or not providing the performance improvements you are looking for.

Benefit Feature

4 DB2 pureScale Monitor Provides a quick “monitor” view of the health of their pureScale nodes.

These top new features and benefits in Toad for IBM DB3 v6.0

5 DB2 LUW Real-Time Statistics This new tab has been added to the database viewer to provide live statistics for tables, indexes and tablespaces. For example, for tables, Toad will show how many rows have been read and/or updated. This has been a part of Toad for DB2 z/OS but we’ve now added this feature for LUW.

6 SQL Optimizer for DB2 z/OS Index Impact Analysis and Recommendations SQL Optimizer for IBM DB2 z/OS now is more full featured similar to our Oracle and LUW editions. SQL Optimizer’s index recommendation feature can determine if adding indexes will improve the performance for a single SQL statement. SQL Optimizer will generate some virtual indexes for the SQL statement to see if adding some real indexes will make the statement run faster. This is done without impacting database performance. This Provides DBAs more options for tuning complex SQL
