And the mobile device can receive information based on its position.

Beacon technology is being embraced by all of the important players in smartphone devices and operating systems.
It now comes pre-installed on all Apple devices released since the 4S, including tablets.
Apple recently launched iBeacons based proximity functionality in all of its U.S. stores.
Since Android Jelly Bean (4.3), Google has also enabled support for this new technology.
