April 2010

The good news is …

Research methods tools are available to support any/all ILRI projects (some of which can be found at

www.ilri.org/rmg)

RMG staff are ready to support you in various areas of research methods (study design, data management,

statistical analysis, GIS data management and analysis and training)

And the not so good news is …

www.ilri.org/rmg

Our tools are useful but the problems ILRI works on are challenging and the negative

impacts if we do not solve them are huge. e.g. Impacts of climate change and ability of

farmers to adapt, mitigation strategies against environmental degradation, loss of

biodiversity, pollution, zoonotic diseases, animal and human health impacts

There remains a ‘missing link’ between RMG and some ILRI projects which we would like to insert

We are a small group; there are lots of projects and hundreds of research methods available

The ILRI-ICRAF Research Methods Group: Supporting Livestock Research

Not so good

The goodStatistical, Geo-spatial and data management tools support quantification and

visualization of ILRI Research in many areas. e.g.… efficacy of livestock

disease control, animal genetic resources characterisation and use, improving

the socio-economic and nutritional value of livestock, marketing and value-

chain evaluation of livestock and livestock products, evaluating the

importance of livestock to livelihoods and gender aspects, sustainable

farming systems

GIS & Remote Sensing Tools and Products
