Advances that offer tactical advantages in campaigning, marketing and communication, have unintentionally birthed the digital divide. This cyber-chasm encourages us to segment and label groups to receive uniform messages, never deviating from the theme identified as “liked.”

Facebook• Facebook is the second most accessed
website in the US – after Google• United States has 168.8 million
members• 1.11 billion monthly active users,
globally• Create and share content with
“friends”• The LIKE button allows users to
express appreciation of content of “pages”
Obama on Facebook 2008• Created an interconnection between Obama's official
website and Facebook so a user could send postings from one to another
• Spent 4% of $16 million Internet budget to promote on Facebook
• Main Facebook page had over a million likes• 10 more Facebook accounts for "specific
demographics, such as Veterans for Obama, Women for Obama, and African Americans for Obama
