All living things carry an inheritance that governs their behavior. We

possess an adaptive patchwork of genetic programming that affects how we

experience and interact with the world. In addition to our genetic inheritance,

we rely on another inheritance—the fabric of life experience and acquired

systems that guides us through our lives. Culture, relationships, education,

language and institutions are passed down through generations, forming the

world we live in today. This inheritance is rich, but it also limits our potential

by leading us to believe that this is the way life and civilizations must be.

The world has changed, but our genetic programming and many of our

cultural systems have not. In some ways we have adapted to interact with

a world we no longer inhabit. In this complex world, we know less than we

think we know, and more importantly, much less than we could know.

On an individual level inheritance also takes the form of a roll of

imbalanced dice. A few of us receive a rich inheritance. Most of us are

handed an inheritance with limited choices. Some of us find ourselves in

survival mode from birth.

The momentum of our genetics and inherited social and economic systems

push us to continue living as we always have. We call these combined forces

SLANT. Y Worlds aims to step out from the momentum of inheritance, to

pull against SLANT’s push. By revolutionizing how we cooperatively organize

knowledge across systems, humankind can do a better job surviving,

protecting and making our way through the world without illusions.

We have more and more information at our fingertips, yet much of this

information remains untested and scattered across our consciousness. From

human enterprise to scientific research, there are layers of interactions,

scores of variables, systems and relationships existing across time and space.

Words, presented linearly, cannot begin to convey the multitude of the

simultaneously-occurring interactions that define our world. And words carry

the weight and distortion of SLANT; they are ineffective for understanding

anything complex. Although we have access to enormous amounts of data, we

are unable to process the complex implications of this fragmented knowledge.

Humans understand by making connections and recognizing patterns.

We believe that visually conveying knowledge is more effective than

attempting to comprehend complexity through linear text. Visualization

also allows us to see, in an instant, whole systems in play as well as their

subsystems and prime elements. By making patterns and connections

visual, we are able to process complex knowledge effectively.

We can nullify the effects of SLANT by accurately comprehending the

complex relationships and exchanges that define everything in our lives.

Understanding complexity is where humankind’s potential lies.

VISUALIZATION

The momentum of our ancestral inheritances is leading us into a

maelstrom of complex challenges without the benefit of a complex language.

To begin confronting these challenges, Y Worlds Cooperative is building a

system for organizing, exchanging and visually communicating knowledge.

Powered by a real-time, browser-based visualization engine, it will enable us

to harness the continuous outpouring of information and transform it into

a dynamic, intuitive system for knowledge organization. This engine will

be built upon a framework that will continually classify information as our

knowledge base expands and changes. We call this framework Visual Y.

We believe a systemic, intellectual revolution

is in order.

VISUAL YY Worlds believes that the most accurate way to convey complexity is

through a constantly evolving knowledge mapping language we call Visual Y.

Visual Y is a way to communicate through active representational forms and

patterns rather than through just one limited form—words. These moving

patterns and representational forms carry complex meanings such as cause,

effect, relationship, change, state, and more. Regardless of one’s objective

or perspective, the Visual Y language will be able to display the necessary

comprehensive system of representational patterns.

Visual Y is part of a large scale, browser-based engine that will collect,

organize and distribute knowledge using dynamically integrated visuals

and sound. Instead of lines of text, patterns of connection will emerge

across time and in physical space. At any time, a user will be able to view

research, proofs and sources for every validated entry.

Current knowledge is transmitted in piece—parts largely through the lens

of our language. Yet our language is an ancient inherited amalgam that is

not able to keep up with our comprehension of the deeper and broader

constructs of our complex universe.

Our potential is to pursue a holistic, scientific, organic, accurate and

compassionate consciousness. This is the pursuit of complexity, of Visual Y.
