Software is a set of instructions on the basisOf which a computer operates.

Unlike computer hardware, computerSoftware cannot be seen or touched.

It is an imaginary part of the computerWhich is used with hardware to perform

Computer apps.

It is divided into 3 categories;1.Operating software2.Utility software

Operating software

An operating system or OS is a software program that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software. . The operating system is an essential component of the computer system as through it the computer accepts command for operation .

Utility software 

Utility software is system software designed to help analyze, configure, optimize or maintain a computer. Utility software usually focuses on how the computer infrastructure (including the computer hardware, operating system, software and data storage) operates.

Application software 

App software is a user oriented program which is designed  and developed for performingCertain jobs, such as accounting, word processing and designing .Accounting software used in a business depends on the size and requirements of the organization.E.g. Ms word ,Ms excel .

Limitations of computer system

•Operates on pre-defined instructions

The computer system carries out the instruction as given in the program even if it lack the quality of commonsense . 

•Intelligence 

A computer system does not have an intelligence of its own .it works according to the instruction only.

• No Decision-Making powerComputer cannot take any decision of its own. It does only those tasks which are already instructed to it.
