Shear force

Force acting on a substance in a direction perpendicular to the

extension of the substance

Classification shear force

• Single Shear• Double Shear

Page 5: Shear force.. 10.01.03.121

Single Shear

• Single shear is load applied in one plane

• When single cross section of an element in a joint takes all the shear force it is called single shear

application of single shear

Page 7: Shear force.. 10.01.03.121

Double Shear

• When two cross sections of the element takes the shear load it is called double shear

• Double shear is moire safer and has higher safety factor

Application of Double Shear

Shear force in CE • Use a shear force diagram to analyze the beam• The shear force diagram indicates the shear force

resisted by the beam section along the length of the beam.

• Shear force diagrams are analytical tools used in conjunction with structural analysis to help perform structural design by determining the value of shear force.

• Another application of shear and moment diagrams is that the deflection can be easily determined using either the moment area method or the conjugate beam method.

Shear force in ME

• Use a shear force diagram to analyze the Mechanical Frame or Section or joint.

• It helps to determine the frame or Section of Mechanical device.

• It is a analytical tools and can estimate the deflection of frame.
