What . . .• Falls to Earth at a rate of 30,000
metric tons a day?• Have you probably eaten before in a
salad?• Are remnants of the time when the
solar system formed 4.6 billion years ago?
The Answer:
Did you Know?• A 12-year old’s solar cell may
revolutionize the energy industry.• He developed his solar cell as part of a
science fair project.• He developed a solar cell that is 3
dimensional instead of 2 dimensional and has the possibility to collect up to 500 times as much solar energy as traditional solar cells.
• What important discovery will you make while completing your science fair project??

The Science of Fractals• They contain Large
Degrees of self-similarity
• They are closely related to computer graphics, programming, and mathematics
• They can be seen in nature in clouds, lightning bolts, and snowflakes
• A study of fractals would make a great science fair project!
What is the Science and Engineering Fair?
• A chance to do real scientific research in a science or engineering field
• A long-term commitment that will requirement you to complete the majority of the work on your own
• A chance to share your project results with scientists in the field
• A chance to compete in the Gwinnett Regional Science and Engineering Fair – and maybe even the State fair!
What the fair is not:
• A place to present library research projects
• A place to present projects that model science events like hurricanes and volcanoes
• A place to complete projects based on studies that have already been completed
Your Next Steps• Look at the list of categories• Start thinking about a
category you are interested in and topics that relate to the category
• Begin researching studies that have already been done about topics you are interested in
Remember - • You will be developing
your project following the scientific method
• Your logbook will become the MOST IMPORTANT part of your science fair project
• Do not begin any experimentation until your research plan is approved
Remember -
