Redesigning Education for the 21st Century Workforce
Procurement of Hardware and Software
School District Bids vs use EPLs
Each district will be allowed to advertise and issue their own RFP/bid per public purchasing law OR
Districts may use the existing EPLs “as is” for buying “pieces and parts”, subject to each EPLs dollar limitations, OR
Districts may use a new “Special EPL” for the ICT and STEM lab projects
Why a new ICT/STEM EPL?
Exceed EPL limits of $100,000 Provide authority to spend for hardware and
software not on an existing EPL Negotiate volume discounts Obtain pricing for services and training not
currently available Ensure turnkey vendors are available to
integrate products and services
ICT/STEM EPL Will consist of vendors who are approved on BOTH
Micro and LAN EPLS Vendors who provide value-added services
All products on Micro and LAN are available Participating vendors are required to provide
additional discounts off EPL pricing Schools will need to get at least three quotes from
vendors for each item Required to take lowest quote, not “lowest and best”
Hardware on existing EPLs: Micro EPL
Student Computers Teacher Notebooks Headphones Projectors Printers Electronic Whiteboards Voting Systems (also available on SCEPL)
LAN EPL Servers Switches (or wireless alternatives) UPS Tape Backup
Hardware NOT on an existing EPL:
Digital Camera Digital Video Camera PDAs Refractometers Surge protectors Graphing Calculators Other items requested by MDE
For Hardware NOT on an existing EPL:
Schools responsible for getting three quotes from EPL vendors or non-EPL vendors
ITS will provide spending authority for these items
ITS encourages using the ICT/STEM vendors for quotes when possible
Cabling
Cabling will not be part of the ICT/STEM EPL
Schools may use the Cabling EPL #3464 or self-cable as approved by MDE
Schools are responsible for site prep including electrical
Software on an existing EPL:
Schools are responsible for purchasing software licenses from an existing EPL or other sources
ICT/STEM EPL vendors may provide special pricing for loading or ghosting software if requested
Software on an existing EPL: Microsoft Products Adobe Products (ITS is working on a CLP for
additional discounts) Symantec Ghost Antivirus Software Server OS Software Software Curriculum EPL
Solid Works Net Op Inspiration
Software NOT on an existing EPL:
Microtype Clean Slate or equivalent Other software items requested by MDE
ITS will work to add titles to existing EPLs or provide spending authority
The Role of ITS
ITS will have the ICT/STEM EPL ready when the pilot sites are chosen and approved by the MDE Board.
ITS will work with MDE to review and approve the three quotes.
ITS will be a resource to ensure that the ICT/STEM EPL vendors will perform according to the specifications.
