The 2010 Population and Housing Census (PHC) of Ghana followed the essential features of a modern Population and Housing Census as recommended by the United Nations.
This is the fifth census conducted after independence and the second time a population census has been combined with a housing census.
The 2010 PHC was in reference to 26th September, 2010 (Census Night).

A ‘de facto’ count approach was adopted. Thus, all persons who were found within the borders of Ghana on Census Night, irrespective of their nationality and status were enumerated.
All residential structures (both occupied and unoccupied) were also counted.
