• Prior photography planning. I have met up with a friends band where I have taken photographs of them both at a concert and in a studio.

• I have booked a studio in order to take pictures of my other model – Stevie.

• I will be using a DSLR and an iphone to take the pictures.

Planning

CONTACT SHEET: I took several images so that I could review them and have a wide variety of choice if the magazine didn’t go to plan. From the image the ones that have a tick are ones that I will use in the production of my magazine,

This image will be used on the contents page as a filler image.

I will probably crop it so the image is just of Will (right) as he has a unique pose which I could manipulate to make into a ‘quirky’ featured article. As can be seen on my rough draft drawing.

Reference image and drafts:After reviewing my images and picking the one that would most replicate the reference image I Was aiming for, I began to crop Stevie out of the background using a polygon lasso tool and some mask layers. I did this because the background wasn’t of a high enough quality. After this I composed and altered the image to match the reference image and draft drawings.

I also chose to rid of the original background because a plain white background with subtle highlights emphasis’ his power – being in the higher socio economic group. This says to the target audience that he doesn’t need a background.

With regards to the double page spread. I have chosen to use his image and compose it in the way shown by my rough double page spread drawing.

I wanted to clean up the image, that is, to again cut Stevie out of the background and create my own backdrop in Photoshop – for the same reasons as before but also in order to have the bold colours of the page stand out. I then went on to hue and saturate Stevie’s jacket so it matched the house colours of the magazine.

Continue onto the next slide for more detail.

• With the aim of making Stevie look suitably representable for the target audience (A-C1 socio economic group.) I decided to add his name in a bold plug-in font called Steel Tongs, which helps, along with the plain white background to emphasis his presence and name.

• From cropping the image of Stevie I am able to make the text lay underneath one viewpoint of the rule of thirds, and his eye line over another. Being the two main points of view for the page, this is important because they are immediately addressed by the reader.

• Text will be in the same colour as Stevies hue and saturated jacket.

• Backdrop text will be enlarged over both pages – as a style and design feature.
