scheme that most

closely matches how

you use your computer.

- Standby reduces power usage

when your computer is not in

use by turning off the parts of

your computer that use the

most energy. It only takes a few

seconds to start a computer

from standby.

- You can adjust the default behavior

of the power buttons on your

computer.

COMPUTER NETWORK

List of all necessary components for the network hardware

Scheme of the equipment and devices connections.

•Necessary components for the network hardware

What do we need to assemble and install a network composed by 7 computers

sharing an Internet connection and a printer?

7 Computers Hub or switch Network printer Router RJ45 connector cable Ethernet cable Network card(printer)

Page 14: Operating systems and computing networks

SCHEME

The scheme would be like this:

Here we have 7 computers, a router, a printer and in the middle of those things and the

most important one, a switch (links network segments or network devices). It means

that in the switch are connected all, by the way that all of them can share the internet

connection given for the router and they also share the printer.

How can we do that?

Each computer is connected to the switch or hub using an RJ45 connector cable, in the

same way we connect the printer (which has a network card that is where we introduce

the cable) and the router. In the case of the router, it’s connected at the same time to

the telephone socket using an Ethernet cable to have internet connection for all the

computers.

Page 15: Operating systems and computing networks

SCREENSHOTS

How to install these 7 computers?

First click in MY COMPUTER and then in PROPERTIES:

Click in COMPUTER NAME and CHANGE:

Each of the seven computers must have the same Workgroup and a different Computer name:

THE SAME

Page 16: Operating systems and computing networks

When we have named each computer we have to connect them to the Internet connection so

click in CONTROL PANEL :

Click in NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS and then in NETWORK CONNECTION:

Click in LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and in PROPERTIES:

Page 17: Operating systems and computing networks

Then click in the INTERNET PROTOCOL and we find this:

The IP address: Is unique and unrepeatable for each one of the computer, it means that each

computer MUST have a different one.

Subnet mask: Specifies which bits of the IP address to specify a particular IP network or a host

within a subnet. Usado para “enmascarar” una porción de una dirección IP de modo que el

TCP/IP pueda determinar si cualquier dirección IP dada está en una red local o remota. Cada

equipo configurado con el TCP/IP debe tener una máscara de subred definida.

Default Gateway: Is the code of the router that is giving the Internet to the seven computers, so

it has to be always the same.

The last thing, If we want to share a printer we

must click on it and share it:

MSDOS COMMANDS To insert the commands we have to follow these instructions:

Click in START, RUN and type “cmd” ( commands)

Page 19: Operating systems and computing networks

I’m going to explain two commands:

IPCONFIG:

Ipconfig is a command utility that can be used to display the network settings currently

assigned and given by a network. This command can be utilized to verify a network connection

as well as to verify your network settings.

We type after the “Administrator>” “ipconfig” and push in enter:

Here is all the information of my computer’s IP configuration.

Page 20: Operating systems and computing networks

PING:

Helps in determining TCP/IP Networks IP address as well as determine issues with the

network and assists in resolving them. See the ping definition for a full description.

We type after the “Administrator>” “ping” and our IP address and click in enter:

All is correct. Let see if we put another IP address that is not ours:

It says that it couldn’t find it because it’s not correct.

SECURITY PROBLEMS

PROBLEM: I have a serious problem on my computer. When I open my browser

program it pops a message window which blocks the computer and claims the operating

system is locked due to the violation of some laws such as visiting pornography, child

pornography, and zoofila website among other fake claims, and then demands a fine of

100 Euro or $100 be paid by UKash or Paysafecard services.

Causes and prevention:

Police – Your operating system is locked due to violation of the laws of the UK is a fake

popup created by cyber criminals. When you are downloading programs from unknown

forums, visiting hacked websites or clicking on suspicious links, you easily get infected

with this virus. This originates from a family of screen lockers. Once installed, the virus

locks your computer and demands you to pay fine to unlock your computer. Usually, it

can completely lock your PC, causing you unable to access any of the saved files or

documents. It is extremely important to drop everything that you are doing and to

concentrate entirely on removing it from your machine.

Solution:

A safe and easy method is to download SPYWARE Doctor to automatically remove Police

– Your operating system is locked due to violation of the laws of the UK.

Manual Police – Your operating system is locked due to violation of the laws of the UK

Removal Steps:

* Stop the virus process using the windows task manager.

* Uninstall the virus program from windows control panel Add/Remove Programs.

* Open windows registry using regedit.exe command. Find and Remove all the virus

Registry Files.

* Search for the virus files on your computer and delete it.

Please, be informed that manual removal of the virus malware is a cumbersome

procedure and does not always ensure complete deletion of the virus, since some files

might be hidden or may automatically reanimate themselves later.

Another way is to download Police – Your operating system is locked due to violation of

the laws of the UK Removal Tool to automatically remove the virus.

PROBLEM: When I start my computer up I always find a blue star and a message

from Microsoft "Windows Genuine Advantage" to buy the Windows Original as long as

mine, like many users’, is not, or at least I do not remember having bought. Let me know

how I can delete the notice and how I can prevent myself from getting it again.

Causes and prevention:

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) notifications occur when your computer hasn't

passed the validation test. The validation test can be failed because you installed a

pirated non-genuine copy of XP, or because you have changed your XP product key to a

software-generated key, or sometimes it just happens for no reason at all. Here's how to

get rid of the annoying notifications.

Solution:

How to Stop Installation Wizard from installing Windows Genuine Advantage Notification?

1.When you see the window for installing the Genuine Advantage Notification software

click cancel.

2.Go to "My Computer.

3.Click on "Local Disk", usually it's C:\.

4.Go to folder "Windows."

5.Go to folder "system32."

6.Look for the folder KB905474 and click it to see the files inside.

7.Verify that the folder contains files that have "WGA" or “Genuine Notifications" in the

filenames.

8.Delete the folder KB905474. This stops the Installation Wizard from installing

Windows Genuine Advantage Notification.

9.Empty the Recycle Bin just to make sure Windows doesn't retrieve the deleted folder.
