Introduction:

. Site survey is the first step towards any upgrade or plan for any

project in sites bases or any institute.

. Our target is to make full audit on all the telecom technologies used

in the sites such as internet, PBX, PSTN, VOIP…….etc.

. Each site has different design, requirements, location, technologies

and population.

. Below report shows the main tools and procedure used in the site

audit process and related reporting.

. Report template available to be fully filled out by survey engineers

and to be send after double checking the data to our team.

Tools Used During Site Survey

. GPS with storing points ability.

. Camera with appropriate specifications.

. Distance measuring tool, old type or laser type.

. Compass by mobile or normal independent compass.

Survey Strategy and Procedure:Slide#1

Below points to be followed up by all engineers during the visits and

data storing during the survey:

a. After each engineer introduce himself to the responsible person

in the current site, contact details “Mobile No, Email and Full

name” should be requested for the ICT-Information center techn.

staff’s manger and the head of the maintenance department.

b. 1st to ask all question concerning the internet part only Current

“Provider, Bandwidth, equipments used, Link to ISP, full

topology- Drawings, connections with other sites, future needs

regarding internet services, sockets and wiring availability and

healthy on each room and number of users?”

Page 5: Oil Sites Visit and Survey Training Report

Survey Strategy and Procedure:Slide#2

b. 2nd to ask all about the number of buildings/floors/rooms &

meeting rooms/ and how many employee in each floor, how many

computers-types, taking the layout and dimensions of buildings,

meeting rooms and detailed information of the power system and

any cable tries.

c. 3rd to ask all about the PBX-Private Branch Exchange, type, no.

of lines, no. of users, no. of sockets in each floor, power system,

future expansion, is the PBX connected to the PSTN side and

how many lines.

d. 4th asking about the PSTN-Public switch telephone network, how

many lines, how many users, who many fax device and type.

Survey Strategy and Procedure:Slide#3

e. 5th to ask about the VOIP service, how many lines and terminals,

how many users, connection type, future expansion needed?

f. 6th to ask about the VC-Video conference, type, how many device

and in which rooms, any future upgrade needed?

g. 7th how is the site connected to other sites, list all technologies?

h. 8th dose the ICT staff need any training courses in IT, networking,

windows and office.

i. 9th dose the site contain Data center, how many, type, storage,

DB type, staff working on it and future expansion needed?

j. 10th dose the site contains CCTV-Close Camera Television, how

many security camera, type, model and future upgrade needed?

k. Dose the site contains SCADA system, all detailed information

and topology?

Drawings and Layout Sketches

. Draw all the available topologies “Internet, VOIP, PBX & PSTN”.

. Draw all meeting, conference and training rooms in details “number

of chairs/ length & width”.

. If there is very far sites connected to the current one we are visiting,

try to take all data and information as well make drawing for the

sites with distance, areas names and connection types.

. If the site consists of many buildings, make layout drawing with the

accurate distance and each building information.

. If possible try to get design maps site’s building or take picture to it

by camera.

. Take clear pictures to all available internet devices, antennas,

dishes, wiring, power supplies-UPSs, all Rooms and any device

related to our concerns.

Brief Description about SCADA :#1

SCADA is an acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. SCADA systems are

used to monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as

telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining and

transportation. These systems encompass the transfer of data between a SCADA central

host computer and a number of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and/or Programmable Logic

Controllers (PLCs), and the central host and the operator terminals. A SCADA system

gathers information (such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred), transfers the

information back to a central site, then alerts the home station that a leak has occurred,

carrying out necessary analysis and control, such as determining if the leak is critical, and

displaying the information in a logical and organized fashion. These systems can be

relatively simple, such as one that monitors environmental conditions of a small office

building, or very complex, such as a system that monitors all the activity in a nuclear power

plant or the activity of a municipal water system. Traditionally, SCADA systems have made

use of the Public Switched Network (PSN) for monitoring purposes. Today many systems

are monitored using the infrastructure of the corporate Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide

Area Network (WAN). Wireless technologies are now being widely deployed for purposes

of monitoring.

Brief Description about SCADA:#2

SCADA systems consist of:

• One or more field data interface devices, usually RTUs, or PLCs, which interface to

field sensing devices and local control switch boxes and valve actuators

• A communications system used to transfer data between field data interface devices

and control units and the computers in the SCADA central host. The system can be

radio, telephone, cable, satellite, etc., or any combination of these.

• A central host computer server or servers (sometimes called a SCADA Center, master

station, or Master Terminal Unit (MTU)

• A collection of standard and/or custom software [sometimes called Human Machine

Interface (HMI) software or Man Machine Interface (MMI) software] systems used to

provide the SCADA central host and operator terminal application, support the

communications system, and monitor and control remotely located field data interface

Devices.
