A wireless range extender, is a device which increases the distance of a WLAN signal. Wireless

range extenders work as a repeater to help pick up and reflect WiFi signals from a network's

router. By using a wireless range extender, you can overcome the limitations of your router and

receive wireless signals in your house in areas that were previously unavailable.

Add the Linksys Range Extender to your network to increase both the range and accessibility of

your wireless network. The extender works by receiving signals from the wireless router and

duplicating the signal, which results in doubling the range of the available signals.

Resetting a Linksys range extender removes all of your personal preferences by setting the

extender to its default factory settings. When troubleshooting a weak connection, resetting the

extender allows you to test the manufacturer's recommended settings to see if the speed of your

network increases. Additionally, reset the range extender if you don't successfully set it up

correctly the first time, you can't access the Web-based configuration utility or you recently

upgraded the firmware.

Step 1 Type the IP address to access your Web-based router into your browser's address bar.

Enter "192.168.1.1" if you didn't change the default IP address.

Step 2 Provide the username and password to access the utility. If you didn't change the login

information, leave the User Name field blank, enter "admin" into the Password field and click

"Log In" or "OK."

Step 3 Select the "Administration" tab and then click "Factory Defaults."

Step 4 Select the "Restore Factory Defaults" button.

Step 5 Click the "Management" tab, click "Restore Configurations" and then choose "Save

Settings" to restore your default settings.

Manual Reset

Step 1 Plug the range extender into a power source.

Step 2 Press and hold the Reset button located on the back of the extender for eight seconds. You

may need to use a paperclip or small screwdriver to press the button.

Step 3 Press the Power button on the back of the extender to restart the router.

With Ethernet cable

Use an Eethernet cable to connect the expander to the computer.

Input "192.168.1.240" with out the quote marks in the address bar of your browser. This

is the default address for "Linksys Wireless Range Expander. Press "Enter."

Log onto the setup page for the expander. Put the name of the expander in the Name

field. Put in the same SSID number you got from your router or access point into the

SSID field. Got to the drop down menu next to Channel and choose the same channel

used by your router or access point. Click on "Save."

Set up the same security settings on the security page for expander as you have on the

wireless network, if the network is security protected. Click on "Save Settings."
