Formative Assessment StrategiesWatershed PowerPoint presentations

After learning about watersheds and raising and observing trout in the classroom, the first step in my students’ project is to choose a topic from a list I will provide. Students will then take notes in their interactive notebooks (INBs) using the classroom resources available. This includes pamphlets, brochures, and other educational material provided by the Napa County Resource Conservation District. They will answer the questions about their topic in their INBs.

Next, they will create a “story board” of what will be on each slide and what slide each person will do. Once they have done this, they will be able to begin creating their actual PowerPoint presentation. We will review the project scoring rubric at this time as well.

Before going to the lab, I will show them some of the basic aspects of building their PowerPoint presentation. When we arrive at the lab, they will input their information first, and show this to me. After that, they will be shown how to insert photos, sounds, and video.

While in the lab, students will practice their presentations which will allow me to give feedback and suggestions so that they will be able to make improvements before they present to the class.
