Quote is from the renowned Arab mathematician and brilliant polymath Ibn Al-Haytham (Arabic: أب و ع لي، ال ح سن ب ن ال ح سن ب ن ال ه ي ثم ), considered by many historians of science to be the father of the modern scientific method; he made this statement in his famous 7-volume treatise on optics, Kitab Al-Manadhir (written ca. 1011 - 1021, purportedly while under house arrest in Egypt). Note: Piri Reis' full, formal Turkish name was Hadji Ahmed Muhiddin Piri.
