Land BiomesPor: Isa O y Aleja
Introduction:
Different ecosystems are home to
different kinds of organisms, certain ones.
There are different kinds of certain places
and the scientific name is ¨Biomes¨, Which
means: A large region characterized by a
specific type of climate and certain types
of plants and animal communities.
This map shows some of the
major land biomes on Earth.
Forest Biomes:
Temperate Deciouous Forest
Caniferous Forest
Tropical Rain Forest
Temperate Deciduous Forest
Characteristics:
In forests, plants growth happends in layers. The leafy
tops of the trees reach high above the forest floor, where
the leaves can get sunlight.
Woody shrubs catch the light that filters trhough the
trees.
Ferns and mosses are scattered across the firest floor.
Flowering plants often bloom in early spring, before the
trees grow new leaves.
The word deciduous comes fron the Latin word taht
means ¨ to fall off¨
Average
Yearly Rainfall:
75-125 cm
Average
tempetures:
S: 28°C
W: 6°C
Coniferous Forest:
Characteristic:
These Conifer leaves are adapted to conserve
water.
A coniferous forest is home to many insects and to
birds that eat those insects.
Hervivores that live in thise forest include deer,
moose, porcuponines, and squirrels.
Average Yearly Rainfall:
35-75 cm
Average Temperatures:
S: 14°C
W: -10°C
Tropical Rain Forest
Characteristics:
Trees from a continuous green roof, or canopy
that may exted 60 m above the forest floor.
Woody vines climb the tree trunks to reach
sunlight.
Little light reaches the ground. Low-growing
plants in the rain forest don´t need a lot of light.
Average Yearly
Rainfall:
Up to 400 cm
Average
Temperatures:
Day: 34°C
Night:20°C
Grasslands
Temperate Grasslands
Savannas
Temperate Grasslands:
Characteristics:
Temperate grasslands plants includes grasses and
other flowering plants.
Temperate Grasslands have few trees.
Average yearly rainfall:
25-75 cm
Average Tempetures:
S: 30°C
W: 0°C
Savannas:
Characteristics:
A grassland that often has scattered trees and
taht is found in tropical and subtropical areas
where seasonal rains, fires, and drought happend.
During dry seasons, savanna grasses dry out and
turn yellow.
Average Yearly Rainfall:
150 cm
Average tempetures:
Dry: 34°C
Wet: 16°C
Desert:
Characteristics: A region that has little or no plant life, kong
periods without rain and extreme temperatures; usually found in hot climates.
Deep-rooted plants can reach groundwater as deep as 30 cm.
Some flowering plants bloom, bear seeds, and die within a few weeks after a heavy rain.
Most living things have something special tosurvive in the desert.
Average Yearly
Rainfall:
Less than 25 cm
Average Tempetures:
S: 38°C
W: 7°C
Tundra: A treeless plain found in the Artic, In the Sntartic, or
on the tops of mountains that is characterized by
very low winter temperatures and short, coolsummers.
Polar Tundra
Alpine Tundra
Polar Tundra: Permafrost is the layer of soil beneath the surface.
Soil stays frozen all the time.
Alpine Tundra
o Find at the top of tall mountains, above an
elevation called the tree line. Trees ca not grow
there
