Cambridge Energy Workshop

Cambridge, MA

Project Principal / PM MC, Facilitator

Scope of Services:

Designed and directed a radical energy workshop for

the Kendall and Barr Foundations in partnership with the Cambridge Energy

Alliance. 50 workshop participants were chosen for

their expertise and leadership in community

scale energy issues to drive a 5MW peak energy demand

reduction in Cambridge.

“Rocky Mountain Institute looks forward to working with the City of Cambridge in helping to craft the City’s energy efficiency program. This timely and ambitious project provides an opportunity to apply highly innovative new approaches to energy efficiency in terms of advanced technology, integrated building design, novel business models, and creative policy mechanisms to capture the full potential for efficiency, our cleanest, cheapest and most secure energy resource”.

Campus Climate Initiative

Team Member

Scope of Services: Working with the Association

for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher

Education (AASHE), RMI built on foundational research

published by various sustainability professionals at universities and the National Wildlife Federation’s growing Low-Carbon Campus Series.

Visits to 12 campuses, of varying sizes and types,

revealed stories about barriers and solutions to inform our

research.

Finally, a 3-day workshop with participants from each of

the campuses visited, will inform findings, to be

published as a web-based framework for whole-system

climate action in campus operations.

International Technology Transfer – Innovative

Wood Framing System Japan

This system allows an unskilled crew of 6 to completely assemble a house in a couple of days. After discovering this technology I developed relationships in Japan to successfully adapt for US code approvals, created and performed structural testing plans and raised $5M in capital to start the first plant in the US. Designed, pre-cut and built over 12 homes in MN and WI.

Created a national marketing buzz leading to inquiries and stories from Builder Magazine, Popular Science and 14 newspapers across the country from the Washington Post to the San Francisco Times. Over 500 people from all 50 states and 6 countries inquired about the system in one years time.
