IBM BladeCenter Foundation for Cloud Value Proposition

A pre-integrated, virtualized solution that allows businesses to rapidly deploy compute, network & storage capacity that is ready for cloud

Accelerate workload deployment via an easy to deploy, integrated offering

Where to winTarget Workloads: Virtualization and InfrastructureTarget Applications:, Stateless production apps (Web infrastructure, Collaboration, Citrix Xen App, File/Print) Target Industries: GB LE & Midmarket, including Finance and Public SectorTarget Customers: Customers requiring a single integrated stack for fast workload deployment

Key Features Customer BenefitsSingle priced, packaged, hardware, software, network & storage

Preloaded and integrated

• Purchase process is streamlined for client• Single number to call for support

• Deployment time is cut from weeks to days• Reduces complexity and risk of human error

Built on BladeCenter with its best in class RAS and scalability

• Highly resilient infrastructure with no single point of failure versus HP and Cisco offerings

• Much greater bandwidth capability (important for VM mobility) than Cisco

• Easy to expand to a cloud without rip and replace

How to Beat Cisco

1. Offers rapid time to value

2. Includes storage and vCenter which UCS does not

3. Greater density and performance at lower cost

4. No single point of failure

IBM BladeCenter as a Virtualization PlatformHighly resilient, energy and cost efficient

IBM BladeCenter integration reduces cost and complexity

– Lowers connectivity cost (SAN/LAN) by 44% vs. rack servers

– Eliminates 80+% of all cables

BladeCenter Open Fabric Manager automates network and storage address virtualization for fast failover recovery and easy expansion

IBM BladeCenter infrastructure has no single point of failure unlike competition

BladeCenter H delivers 12% better performance/watt than HP blades* and now features industry’s most efficient (95%) power supplies providing additional potential savings

HS22V supports ~35% more VMs per blade than standard competitor blades

BladeCenter H provides 67% to 250% more Ethernet uplink bandwidth than competitor blades which is critical for VM movement (vMotion)

Things You Need to Know

All IBM BladeCenter Foundation for Cloud transactions flow through the Sales Transaction Hub (new name for Deal Hub) … to get started use Deal Hub Connect. When filling out Abstract include the code name: Rainbow. The client gets:

– A single solution proposal– A single solution price – A single number to call for all solution issues

As a fit for purpose solution, the offering has limited options – 4 T-shirt sizes: Small (4 blades), Medium (5 to 14 blades), Large (15 to 28 blades) and XLarge

(29 to 56 blades) • Can vary # of blades in Medium, Large, and XLarge• Power can be 30 or 60 amp • Ethernet connections (1Gb/10Gb))

IBM BladeCenter Foundation for Cloud is a great door opener to a much deeper discussion with your client about their virtualization/cloud strategy

Fulfillment is via the Intelligent Cluster (e1350) process– Rack is fully configured with blades, servers, switches, storage, and software– Lab Services completes the install at client site

The offering is not available via the channel– This item is being worked– Channel partner can request an exception but an IBMer must be involved in the deal

The offering is not available in all countries– Limited to those that have M&TS support, have all parts available and priced and where BPs

are not sole IBM sales resource
