HP Storage Essentials SRM captures several metrics for business applications such as Oracle, DB2,Informix, MS Exchange, Intersystems Cache, SQL Server and Sybase Adaptive Server. Server and FabricSwitch metrics such as physical and virtual memory used, processor utilization, bytes transmitted andreceived, link failures and CRC errors are captured with respect to the storage data path.

HP Storage Essentials Performance Manager module allows flexible views to monitor all the metricscaptured

Use deep storage data path information to develop good shared understanding among the application, host and storage teams to scope problematic storage data paths to reduce troubleshooting time fromweeks and days to hours and minutes. Leverage topology views, reports, and Performance Manager todrill down into problem areas quickly and easily. To further accelerate root cause analysis, HP StorageEssentials SRM filters out the elements in the storage path that are not relevant to the application incontext, so you can see only the host, HBA port, switch, switch port, storage system port, and storagesystem metrics that matter to trouble shoot the problem.

Historical performance charts with customizable stats aid the ability to take hourly, weekly or monthlysnap - shots. This allows you to track performance trends over time to quickly see what has changed andto take the necessary action before performance bottlenecks get serious. You can also create SLA reportsthat can be easily shared with customers to maintain or exceed very good storage SLA. Lastly, historicalperformance and forecasting allows with load balancing decisions and plan for business continuityscenarios.

HP Storage Essentials SRM also provides the "big picture" views of your storage resources and itsutilization. Current, historical, and projected capacity information is delivered for all supported businessapplications, host servers, fabric switches, and arrays. Use the performance data captured for capacityplanning. Knowing the performance data helps to load balance storage volumes mapped to hosts andapplications across different array and volume groups depending on the application storage access. Itgives valuable information for storage provisioning administrators to squeeze out more out the existingstorage system. For each resource type, capacity and performance information is presented in theappropriate context for that resource (for example, megabytes free for logical host volumes; used andavailable ports for a fabric switch; mapped, unmapped, unallocated, and unused raw capacity for diskpools in a storage system). HP Storage Essentials SRM also provides out-of-box utilization chartssummarize capacity use by host operating system, connection types by switch, port utilization by storagesystem, and more. Historical trends are available for every resource, and can be charted over any lengthof time by day, week, month, or year. In addition, trends can be extrapolated over a user-defined periodto forecast future capacity demands, enabling you to see which logical and physical resources willexhaust capacity soon, and which have excess capacity that can be leveraged.

"MAP" means a managed access port"MAL" means a managed application license specific to a software application such as used for Microsoft Exchange ServerViewer and Database Viewer (Oracle database, DB2, Informix, Sybase, Microsoft SQL and InterSystems Cache')"TB" means terabytes which designates the amount of physical capacity that can be managed"Concurrent User" or "CC User" means the Software is licensed by the amount of users that simultaneously use the Software atany one point in time. The Software can be installed on any number of computers, provided that the actual usage of theSoftware does not exceed the number of licenses purchased."Array" means a collection of data items that are given a single name and distinguished by numbers

The following details how to determine the number of MAP licenses required:

Interconnect devices:Interconnect devices:Interconnect devices:Interconnect devices: For a fully populated switch (i.e., all blades are installed and all ports in all blades have GBIC/SFPsinstalled), all ports are counted towards MAPs total. If no interconnect devices add up the number of GBIC/SFPs installed inthe FC switch and that is the MAPs total.

Hosts and Infrastructure:Hosts and Infrastructure:Hosts and Infrastructure:Hosts and Infrastructure:

A non-Storage Area Network (SAN) attached server (no HBA) that has the agent installed/discovered will count as 1 MAPA SAN attached server that has the agent installed/discovered will count each Fibre Channel (FC) port as a MAP (a dualported HBA will count as 2 MAPs)A Fibre Channel switch with 64 Fibre channel active ports counts as 64 MAPsIDE or SCSI ports are not counted in MAP calculations unless they are used to connect to fabric switches or storage systemsA Windows server with no CIM Extension installed, but that has been discovered via WMI will count as 1 MAPFor NPIV only the physical ports are counted. For example, a customer has 10 HP BladeSystem c-Class blades with one HostBuss Adapter (HBA) each dual ported and connected to a Brocade NPIV port will count as 12 MAPs (10*2+1).In the hosted virtual environment, ESX server HBA ports are counted as MAPs. For example, 5 ESX servers with 2 dual portedHBAs counts as 10 MAPs (5*2=10)Each Vmware Virtual Server discovered with HP Storage Essentials will count towards one MAP. Vmware hypervisors (forexample VMware ESX servers) will be treated as physical servers

Storage subsystems:Storage subsystems:Storage subsystems:Storage subsystems:

All discovered storage array controller ports count (for example SMI-S is used to find the arrays). If the array has 8 ports, it will count8 MAPs. The number of MAPs in a storage system includes all physical connections independent of protocol (including FibreChannel, ESCON, SCSI and/or FICON, Ethernet, or Gigabyte Ethernet).

Application Cluster SupportThe product is cluster safe.It is "cluster aware" with the use of the Cluster Builder capability in which the user manually assigns a cluster node to a cluster nameor cluster virtual IP address.Where noted below, product supports "clustering" in which the product provides automatic agent-based cluster discovery. There are 2 ways of supporting clusters:1. "Cluster Builder" - with the use of the Cluster Builder capability , the user can manually assign a cluster node to a cluster (host)name or cluster virtual IP address. This is "Cluster Aware."2. "Automatic Cluster Discovery" - by installing a CIM extension on a host, the product supports automatic cluster discovery (seetable below for supported environments). In both cases, cluster topology, capacity, properties, and events are represented.

or cluster virtual IP address.Where noted below, product supports "clustering" in which the product provides automatic agent-based cluster discovery. There are 2 ways of supporting clusters:1. "Cluster Builder" - with the use of the Cluster Builder capability , the user can manually assign a cluster node to a cluster (host)name or cluster virtual IP address. This is "Cluster Aware."2. "Automatic Cluster Discovery" - by installing a CIM extension on a host, the product supports automatic cluster discovery (see tablebelow for supported environments). In both cases, cluster topology, capacity, properties, and events are represented.Clusters Version Platform CommentVeritas Cluster Server 4.1, 5.0

HBAHBAs were tested with recent firmware and drivers, as of this writing. Contact your management server software representative foradditional firmware and driver details.HBA drivers used must be SNIA HBA API compliant. We do not support multiple OEMs of HBAs in the same server.Dual-ported HBAs differ in how they appear to the management server software and is dependent on how the vendor implementstheir API. Some dual-ported HBAs appear as two separate adapters.Depending on the HBA Firmware and the api versions that are used to retrieve the information, SE may report the HBA type differentlyfrom what it actually is on the HBA.HBA Driver Platform CommentsEmulex 8.0.16.32

drives  Application topology does not show files in a

linked directory to a remote drive. Instead itshows the files as being local. For example, assume you install Oracle on a local disk and itsdefault database locations are on that disk. Then, you create a symbolic link from thedirectory Oracle would use to create an instanceto a drive in a mounted subsystem. When youcreate the Oracle instance, its files are put intothe linked directory and onto the drive in thesubsystem; however, application topology showsall files as being on a local disk. Applicationdependencies also do not list the remote devices.
