» Secondly, spammers can gather email addresses from the Internet. They use programs that searchweb pages looking for email addresses. If there is your contact email address in your web site, orif the email address is embedded into your profile, your email address will be obtained byspammers.

» The third way to get your email address is to buy email lists. Some dishonest companies canmake money by selling the customer’s information to spammers. Spammers can also bribeunscrupulous employees of companies to get a copy of the email list.

This is a Phishing email.

By sending their undesired messages a spammers objective is to contact thousands or even millionspeople in the hope to hit one or a few victims (suckers) who actually will buy their crappy products.No suckers, no spam!. But out of a million people, you will always find one or two suckers. Phishingemails are the worst of all spam email. Simply because an Identity Theft victim will suffer theconsequences for many years and may never fully recover. It’s like trying to force people to forget,which is just not possible. You only have one Identity and you should do whatever is necessary toprotect it and ensure that it isn’t compromised.

Most of the Internet protocols that computers use to talk to each other are anonymous. Your emailserver thinks that any email server connecting to it over the Internet is giving its name correctly andthat the email it sends is legitimate and valid. Spammers abuse this trust relationship to send youtheir garbage, spam and phishing emails. The Internet protocols cannot be changed in a moment sowe need another solution to the problem of spam.
