• In general, between 1999 and mid 2002, theunemployment rate in France fluctuatedbetween a high of 7.5% and a low of 6%.

• Since mid 2002, there has been anotherupward trend.

• In the US, however, the picture was rosier.• Although there was a slight increase of 1% in

unemployment between the middle of 2001and 2002, the trend has been a downward onesince mid 2002.

• In short, unemployment rates in the US isdecreasing steadily while that for France showsa steady increase.

• There has only been one point where the tworates meet, which was at the end of 1998 wherethe two lines intersected at 6%.

• The overall trends in unemployment in the USand France shows that the economy in the USis doing much better than in France.

As evident in Figure 4.3, the most popular brandof chocolates is Meiji with 39.0% of respondentsstating that they buy Meiji chocolates frequently.The least popular is Hersheys at 3.5%. 1.5% ofthe respondents do not buy any chocolate.
