Advantages• It reduces the cost of managing and monitoring

the in-house firewalls.• The overall performance of the firewall is

optimized for optimal performance.• 24/7 nonstop support and monitoring. No off

hours.• A strict eye is kept on a number of blocked and

wannabe threats

• Outside attacks and threats are neutralized by blocking the malicious traffic.

• Professional and technical expertise to increase the performance of the organization

• Speedy setting up of firewalls and too with 100% precision.

• It provides controlled access to VPN

Advantages

Limitations• No data integrity is guaranteed. Because it’s not possible to

check all incoming traffic as there are several file formats• Traffic that is not sent through the firewall is not protected

by it. Unsecured dial up modems are also not protected it is unable to protect against unsecured dial up modems that are necessarily linked inside of it.

• If they are compromised they may not be able to protect anything.

Functioning• Their functioning depends on the rules that are established

by the administrator or the service provider.• For instance, a rule might allow a specific system traffic and

block all others.• The protection rules usually accommodate the following

• IP addresses• Names of domains• Protocols• Different ports• Keywords

Filtering typesThey are further distinguished by their node of filtering, These three mechanisms are

•Packet Filtering •Proxy•Inspection

Page 10: Firewall Management: What Is It?

Proxy filteringThrough this you determine which packet of data is permitted to flow through the network.

Page 11: Firewall Management: What Is It?

ProxyIt acts as a link or bridge between the external system and recipient. This hides the system IP from attacks

Page 12: Firewall Management: What Is It?

InspectionIts function is to inspect all packets that flow through it. it decides whether to block it or not based on the characteristics
