"It is not in some hiding-place that we will discover ourselves; it is on the road, in the town, in the midst of the crowd, a thing among things, a man among men."

(Sartre, 1939) Edmund Husserl 1858 - 1938

Epoché; temporarily setting aside the assumptions and biases we hold subconsciously as we exist in the world.

Virtual Reality immerses one into an intentional field in which, a metaphorical and embodied understanding of our constructed environment forcibly presents reality as a subjective choice.

REALITYThe Evolutionary Argument that if we see reality more precisely, we enhance our fitness, is false. It turns out seeing reality more clearly, doesn't favour survive, seeing fitness does" (Adapted from Hoffman, 2009)

DISCUSSION None of us see reality as it is?

Virtual Reality has the same perceptual qualities as our physical reality

We all have multiple identities that exist at the same time

Objects bring us into being

A deletion, removal or death in virtual reality is the same as in our physical world

What is the inherent value of a physical world over a virtual world?

WE DIE SO WE CAN LIVEWhen,...a military leader takes upon himself the responsibility for an attack and sends a number of men to their death, he chooses to do it... In making the decision, he cannot but feel a certain anguish...It does not prevent their acting, on the contrary it is the very condition of their action, for the action presupposes that there is a plurality of possibilities, and in choosing one of these, they realize that it has value only because it is chosen. Now it is anguish of that kind which existentialism describes, and moreover, as we shall see, makes explicit through direct responsibility towards other men who are concerned. Far from being a screen which could separate us from action, it is a condition of action itself. (Sarte, 1948)
