How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? I think our music video and both ancillary products correspond very well together this is initially because of image branding. They all have the continuing house style with consists of bright colours and the standard ‘Mission 808’ logo accompanied with the 4 colour coordinated head shots which follow the codes and conventions of the genre. These key features are prominent in all of the products allowing the audience to primarily establish the genre as well as giving them an in sight of what to expect from the video and consequently the band. This was created through the use of four head shots of each band member (which explicitly links the title of the song ‘Heads’ Will Roll) but furthermore it creates a visual link between all three of the products. As the product was created for “new and upcoming band” the use of the clear headshots also visually publicises the band instantly as they are aiming to become recognisable to large audience. The images to the left are screenshots from all 3 of the ancillary products: Website, Digipak front cover and headshots from the music video. There is a clear link between the three as the audience can instantly identify the likeness in the house style due to the use colours and cropping of the particular shots. In addition there is also an image of Andy Warhol’s Pop Art work. The colour scheme and style of shots, relate back to the conventions that we previously researched to include in our ‘dance/house music genre’ product. The inspiration I gained for the house style of my products came through research of the Indie genre (as this is the genre of the original song by the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs). As a result I discovered fellow Indie Bands including Dandy Warhok and The Best of Blur album who both portray inspiration from the work of Andy Warhol. So I furthermore researched Andy Warhol’s Pop Art and I particularly liked various pieces of his work but foremost the coloured head shots. He created work with the same effect using various famous faces including Madonna, Marilyn Monroe and The Queen. Consequently this is the layout that I used for the album cover, background of the website and also incorporated the style in to my music video with the range of varied coloured facial shots. My final products links well due to the Intertextuality of 90’s Indie music and Pop Art, however I also appreciated this particular theme as it connotes well to the contemporary A Trak remix of the song and furthermore the rise of Dance/House music genre. The website was designed using the same house style. It promotes the video clearly, fitting well with the

advertisement and marketing of my product. I like the choice of background not only because it is represents the album cover but also furthermore it is vibrant and

symbolic of the intentions of the band. In addition to the website I created a Twitter, Instagram and Facebook

page in order to engage, interact and target my product to the audience. I decided to use the viral marketing

form as social media is essential to the communication between the band and a contemporary target audience,

as it is important to develop a relationship in order to promote and gain success for the band by tapping into viral markets. As a modern yet youthful generation we are dependent on remaining socially connected so it

was crucial that social media is considered. I included many interactive and personal pages on the website. It is important to appeal to a new audience, so therefore by offering them an initial insight into the band allows them to feel they are building a connection.

The video was placed at the central focal point of my website, the band are undiscovered with aims to appeal and attract new audiences. Therefore it was essential that a presentation of work is initially available to preview.

Prior to creating my website, I researched a variety of existing artists websites such as Ed Sheeran and I particularly admired the connection built with the audience, it felt as if you were being offered an intimate insight into his life which I aimed to replicated with a range of personal pictures.

The digipak also follows the same house style and includes the standard Mission 808 logo, accompanied by the reoccurring four headshots. This reinstates the visual link between the video to the audience. It follows the original theme of Andy Warhol’s pop art which I admired due to the Intertextuality link of vibrant colours with dance music in addition to the link between Warhol being inspiration for 90’s Indie bands.

The album is self titled, this keeps the concept simple and therefore draws the key focus to the name of the band. And promotes them as a brand.

The inserts inside the digipak follow a similar colour scale as well as including images that were taken in the filming process of the Head Will Roll video. The book is personalised again allowing the audience to feel there are developing a connection with the band which is essential as they are aiming to establish themselves to a wide range of people. The font is also continuous through all three of the products again creating a visual link for the audience.
