When creating my School Magazine cover, I wanted to use effective conventions of over popular magazines. I used the rule of “left third” by aligning my cover lines and masthead to the left. On a rack, this would be the first thing a possible consumer would see so I made the lines provocative and used direct address to intrigue them. I also used the conventions of having my model take up 2/3 of the space from the right hand side as well as my main cover line aligning right. This is because it follows the pattern of the eye, reading from the top left to the bottom right. In terms of my magazine, this means that consumers will see my masthead then down to my main cover story.

My magazine represents lower to middle class teenagers, age 16-18 that attend my school. I have used theme’s which interest teenagers such as technology, by using the title “[SMS]” with the digital font. I also used my language and articles that would appeal to my audience.

My magazine is exclusive to my sixth form as it deals with issue that only affect the school. This would mean my, although small audience would have more interest in it as they would feel special to be included.

My model is dressed in a way that would appeal to my audience as she is made to look comical.

In the process of producing my cover, I learnt about the conventions of magazine and techniques that are used to implicitly attract readers. I also learnt some new Photoshop techniques on how to edit images. It has been a fun and interesting process and I look forward to my actual coursework project.
