On September 23, 1846 John Adams discovered the eighth planet Neptune.

Tools he used Calculations based off of the three laws

of Kepler and Newton's planetary motion.▪ Law of Ellipses▪ Law of Equal Areas▪ Law of Harmonies

Answer part 1I think astronomers from history have affected how fast Neptune was found.

Evidence part 1John Adams was not the only astronomer looking for Neptune, so all several other astronomers were racing to be the first one to find it.

Answer part 2I think the discovery of Neptune made astronomers now want to learn more about it.

Evidence part 2Some astronomers today may have been influenced by the discovery of Neptune and they wanted to learn more about it.

Similarities Both had the same idea about a planet beyond Uranus. Both used Kepler and Newton’s laws of planetary motion.

Differences Leverrier’s estimate of where Neptune was, was 1 degree

off where as Adams was 12 degrees off. Leverrier wanted Neptune named after him since he

thought of a planet beyond Uranus. Impact on each other

If Adams wasn’t around Leverrier could have taken his time on finding Neptune but since Adams was there he had some competition.
