How do I get to the Headlands Institute from the airport?

• You will want to arrange for a shuttle. Use the travel info on the contact information sheet to find other STARs with whom you can share a shuttle. The Headlands Institute recommends: http://www.marindoortodoor.com.

• It took me a little over an hour to get my car, make a wrong turn and then actually get there.

The DEN is paying for lodging. So, do I get my own room?

• We will be staying in dorm-style accommodations. We have secured full use of the dorms so it will only be our group in separate male and female dorms. Please check out http://yni.org/hi for more information.

Will we have time for sightseeing?

• If you would like to see the sights, please plan to do so before or after the institute. We will have some fun things planned during the week, but there will not be specific breaks for you to leave and go to downtown San Francisco for example.

• That said, we won’t let you down. No further comment

• We highly recommend that you bring a laptop. You will probably want to bring a digital camera/digital video camera as well.

• Fitted twin, pillow, sleeping bag or any combination thereof.

Page 13: Den NI Q&A

What type of clothes should we wear during the week?

• They suggested that jeans would be MUCH better than shorts.

• You won’t need any formal attire.

• Just bring enough so you are comfortable. They do have coin-operated laundry machines if you need them.

The website mentions a bedding rental package. Will we have access to this type of rental so we

don't have to pack bedding in our limited luggage?

• They have a limited number of bedding rentals and they said most people prefer to bring their own. If you want to rent though, let me know asap and I will see what we can get.

Next Steps• We will build the agenda with

you based on the feedback we received and the topics you listed in your application.

• Everyone should have a mini-presentation ready (doesn’t have to be formal) about a resource, project, strategy, etc. they use and would like to share – even if for 5 minutes.

• And, bring ONE small thing ($5 or less) from your hometown/school that you can bestow upon a fellow STAR at the DEN NI.
