Results of experiments , suggest that dark matter is composed of sub-atomic particles that are all over space, with a gravitational force that influences the movements of the biggest objects, from planets and solar systems to stars and galaxies.This particles, known as neutralinos, are so weakly-interacting that they pass straight through the Earth without stopping.

Unlike normal matter, dark matter does not interact with the electromagnetic force. This means it does not absorb, reflect or emit light, making it extremely hard to detect.Gravity is an attractive force, which means it brings objects together. The more mass something has, the more gravity, there is. And gravity allowed scientists to discover dark matter.They have been able to detect the existence of dark matter only from the gravitational effect it seems to have on visible matter.

Other researchers are looking for the particules we don’t see underground.They think there may be a collision between the atoms of the ordinary matter and the darkmatter.

This is a dark matter detector used in a laboratory more than 2,000 feet underground in Minnesota. The site used to be a mine but was closed in 1963. The area is now a state park, and visitors can ride an elevatordown to visit the mine cavernsand the dark matter detector .
