An  Open  Data  Ini:a:ve:  A  general  overview  and  learnings  from  experience.

Getting Started: What are the data demands?

Who  is  asking  and  for  what?

What  are  the  “hot”  topics?

How  is  that  result  derived?

How  do  I  get  access  to  that  data?

What  data  are  coming  in?

What  data  are  being  filtered?

How  do  I  get  machine-‐to-‐machine  connec:vity?   Who  are  using  our

data  and  for  what?

Challenges to expect.

Quality?

Data  in  individual  “banks”

Metadata?

What  data  are  available,  in  what  format  and  where  is  it?

Moving Forward

•  Initiative requires help amongst “friends” --- a team approach –  Data experts / knowledge sources –  Subject matter experts –  Technologists (various skills, leverage the market place) –  Target users –  Communications / digital media –  Other?

•  Focus per the demands --- open up the data! –  Get a win and build momentum

•  Seek learnings –  monitor, measure, assess, plan, do

What we have learned.

•  Have met some demand for data –  External audience are using data / information –  Increasing demand for more data

•  Are still challenged with data “silo’s” –  Working at eliminating the challenges

•  Some surprises –  “I never thought of comparing that data to this data.” –  Not the expected volume / frequency of use

•  Open data a must do!
