ICT infrastructures for e-Science (1)COM(2009) 108
• User community organized into series of Specialized Support Centers (SSCs)
• Goals of an SSC:– Increase number of active users in the community– Promote use of grid technologies within the community– Encourage cooperation within the community– Safeguard knowledge and expertise of the community– Build scientific collaboration within and between communities
• An SSC will be a central, long-lived hub for activities within a given scientific community.

How can we accelerate the adoption of cyber infrastructure?
WE ARE HERE
A DISCUSSION IN ITS INFANCY
Position cyber infrastructure as a strategic imperative in support of world class research and innovation activities in Canada
Enable organizations to align activities and investments
Build on the capacity we’ve already invested in
Informing decision makers with respect to future technical directions and the investments required to support them.
Framing the Cyber Infrastructure Discussion will...
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON’T DO THIS?
Canada is lagging other countries due to its current approach
The development of an ICT Strategy to support research and education as a component of Canada’s Science and Innovation Strategy
Providing input to the development of the Strategy for Digital Economy
Informing the next round of CFI funding
Providing input for the definition of CANARIE’s next mandate
