CompTIA’s Big Data Insights and Opportunities study builds on prior big data research conducted by CompTIA. The study focuses on: Tracking changes in how businesses capture, store, manage and analyze data Identifying key end user needs and challenges associated with data Gauging familiarity and incidence rates for big data initiatives Assessing IT channel partner perceptions of big data opportunities The study consists of four sections, which can be viewed independently or together as chapters of a comprehensive report. The data indicates an increase in the number of firms reporting a high degree of data silos (29% in 2013 vs. 16% in 2012).
Large companies report slightly higher degrees of data silos than medium-size or small companies.
Interestingly, respondents self-reporting their analytics capabilities as ‘advanced’ have the highest level of data silos, possibly an indication they are most self-aware of their data shortcomings.
