Cogen Projects
Focussed on:
• CHP based on natural gas
• CHP based on wood
• CHP based on biogas (digestion of organic waste)
• micro-CHP in residential homes
• mini-CHP in small businesses and utility buildings
• District heating
• Other methods of local sustainable energy supply
(underground storage of cold and heat, geothermal,
sun-boilers/PV, onshore/offshore wind)

Cogen Projects
Active in:• Greenhouses / horticulture• Utility buildings and residential homes• Industry• (Local governments)
Personnel:• 15 employees fixed; several experts in network
Location:• Near Utrecht, Netherlands
4
Example - Horticulture
CHP on natural gas for greenhouse
• Provides heat, electricity and CO2(!)
• Reduces costs for heating (approx. 20% of total)
• CO2 supply for fertilisation of crops by flue gas
cleaning
• Heat buffer => production of power during expensive
day hours
• 3000 MWe in the Netherlands (approx 6000 hectares)

Example - small district heating
Amersfoort (Vathorst)
CHP on natural gas for 2.500 houses
• 2 Gas engines of 1630 kWe
• Peak boilers 3 * 6000 kWth
• Heat buffer of 250 m3
• CHP Electrical efficiency 42%
• CHP Thermal efficiency 46%

CHP plant Vathorst
Example - large district heatingon residual heat (Rotterdam)
9
Residual heat (steam) from harbour industry and power plants or waste incineration
Common carrier and distribution for 18.000 houses, shops and offices (potential 30.000)results in decrease of 60 kilotons CO2 p.a.and 100 tons NOx p.a.

Building the first offshore windfarm in India
14
• Apparently “enough” wind, though normally not as strong as in Europe• Relatively shallow waters (exact data available?)• Is > 2 MW realistic?
