THE CHALLENGE

In early 2014 KFA decided to replace their long-term IT partner. The issue was simple: They needed more than traditional technical support, they needed an agile partner who could customised technology to fit their business.

Technically KFA’s executive team was satisfied with the performance and functionality of their existing Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains accounting and Dynamics CRM platforms. But what they really needed was gold-certified expertise to provide tech support in the specific and complex modules they had deployed, and to help manage upgrades and roll-outs.

They needed expert consultants based in Australia, with a team large enough to provide a high level of hands-on support.

“For us, it’s important that our technology partner can work with us,” says Greg Trigg, Associate Director of Business Applications at KFA. “Previously, they (our previous ICT provider) wanted us to do it their way.”

More importantly, KFA needed a partner who would work with them in a real partnership, not just make the sale and deliver a one-off solution.

THE SOLUTION

Over an extensive and formal RFP process Knight Frank Australia evaluated vendors on three key areas:

+ Business-sector knowledge – they had to know the property business, not just ICT

+ Certifications – they had to be gold-certified in Great Plains

+ Deep product knowledge – they had to have expertise in the specific modules KFA was using

“I spent time satisfying myself that the consultants knew what they were doing,” says Trigg. He spoke with Nexon’s Praxa team and “discovered we had quite a lot in common. They gave me confidence that they had the consultants we needed.”

Vendors were rated on the number of expert consultants they could offer, and the location of those consultants. The Nexon team was out in front with five Great Plains-certified people in Sydney and Melbourne. While ongoing support was not a high priority for KFA’s previous tech consultants, the Nexon team set up quarterly meetings and proactive account management to ensure that problems were identified and dealt with as they arose.

In short, KFA made a smart move partnering with a team of experts who would work with them to advise, but not try to control, their technology needs.
