Key factors

OBD dongles are becoming the leading technology to provide telematic insurance & assistance

•OBD dongles offer crucial advantages to insurers:

- Self installable- They are seen by customers and can be

part of the marketing campaign (Progressive's Snapshot or Allianz' Allie)

- Can also be used to provide driver feedback - Can be used to retrieve vehicle data - Using Bluetooth, can be connected to

smartphones for driver feedback•Compatibility issues have been overcome in the US:

•They are about to be fully overcome in Europe too:

- Major insurers have launched programmes, notably Allianz, AXA, Direct Line and Groupama

- B2C car monitoring mobile apps using dongles are growing fast (Automatic, Drust, Zubie)

- TomTom recently won deals with 3 insurance companies in the UK, France and Germany based on their OBD solution

players need product and services to sell to their users

• Some player are creating their own sub eco-system

• A sub-system of App developers are now emerging

• Smart parking, eco-driving, maintenance, roadside assistance, insurance… are just a few of the services being provided

• These players won’t be able to survive on their own

• The little cats will have to pick the right 'jaguar'

IoT Forum 2016

Internet for the car is a huge opportunity

13

• The whole automotive ecosystem is looking for more data

- Connected car is now a reality- All telematics service markets are growing significantly

in Europe- Data is the best key success factor in consumer

telematics

• No one really knows what the market is worth

- The price points for products and services are far from being validated

- Global players have been slow to join (with the exception of Samsung as of WMC)

• You either have to win outright or be a specialist

- There is only one OBD port in a car - There can only be one eco-system owner - The eco-system relies on specialists to provide

content and products / services

IoT Forum 2016

The eco-system players must merge and combine and the other will just be contributors

But in the end, there can only be one
