Adjectives can be found near the word being modified. They can also be found in the predicate after a linking verb.

The first bicycle was made of wood. The airplanes were strange.

Adverbs can be found after the verb, before the verb, or at the beginning of the sentence.

The rocket ascended suddenly. The rocket suddenly ascended. Suddenly, the rocket ascended.

A dependent clause used as an adjective

Adjective clauses are usually introduced with a relative pronoun (who, whom, whose, that, which)

The students, who studied all night, were prepared for the final exam.

subordinating conjuctions such as if, because, even though, than, so that, while, where, when, as if, and since.
