7. HOW THE WEB WORKS
To access a website, you first enter its address, called a URL (Uniform Resource Locator), in the address box of your browser
The http:// indicates that the browser and web server will communicate using Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
The www indicates a resource on the World Wide Web.
The ynhservices.org called a domain name, identifies which computer, called a web server, host the site.
Your web browser sends the request to the appropriate webserver on the Internet
The web server locates the files, then downloads them to your computer.
Your web browser assembles the page on your screen.
8. HOW EMAIL WORKS
Using an email program you compose a message then send it.
The message is sent to your Internet service providers mail server.
The mail server examines the address, deciding how to route the message.
The message travels over the Internet, arriving at the mail server of the recipients Internet service provider, where it is held in an electronic mailbox.
To read the message, Sally logs onto the mail server and retrieves any new messages waiting on the server.
The message (and any other new messages) arrives on Sallys computer.
