Why do organization embrace SaaS as an effective and agile model?
1) Pay per drink model (Cuts down the total cost of ownership of systems from day one by
bringing in the flexibility for scaling on need basis; Provides business plug and play modules that
can be subscribed or integrated when needed) .. these flexibilities enable organizations to plan
and invest in system development in an agile manner.. The priority need gets serviced first vs
what can to be done later gets integrated later and consequently paid for later keeping the
investments and systems leaner.
2) SaaS drives standardization across the organization. SaaS encourages the business to adopt the
industry best practices, have leaner standard processes and stay updated vs technology and
industry trends
3) Having a standard system in turn helps organizations during Merger and Acquisitions
(Standard processes take lesser time to integrate and induct new businesses, the transition costs
and times reduce from months to weeks)
4) Simple and standard systems that are best in class and embrace latest technology trends (e.g.
Mobile, Analytics, Cloud) increase business responsiveness and competitiveness
How can we contribute towards making our organization successful and agile?
Required thought process:
Once you choose a SaaS product, Believe in it.. Configure it and DO NOT Customize over
it
Over a period of time, the businesses have realized benefits by getting their respective processes
"digitized" in silos. No doubt, they increased their respective process productivity and reduced
process TATs through automation. In this process, over a period of time the Enterprise suffers
due to existence of several disjoint, non standard, technologically obsolete point solutions and
tools.
Output to such individual initiatives leads to having diverse and disconnected systems that get
saturated and obsolete over time making business access many systems to execute their day to
day operations... The systems developed with this approach become best in class for that
particular operation however create an enterprise level challenge when it comes to their
Consolidation, Scalability and Integration restricting them to embrace latest industry and
technology trends.. Eventually the corporates need to run large global standardization initiatives
to restart on newer standard process, platforms and technologies and consequently retain their
sustenance or business continuity and agility to cope with dynamic business growth.
To meet the larger organizational goals, we need to think beyond our processes and look through
a wider lens on how these processes can be standardized across organization to bring in the
agility and scalability in operations.
Embrace SaaS!
SaaS tools are proven tools that have been constructed using best in industry practices since their
inception. Some of these products have grown and serviced organizations of the order of
hundreds of thousands of employees working in a globally distributed and diverse environment
with their standard offerings.
With SaaS product offerings, we should bring the crisp and clear needs, evaluate these
readymade SaaS products, choose the best one that fits our80% of requirements (if not 100%),
plug in and play!
In this journey, our focus should be to configure the chosen product and not customize it to keep
it simple and to ensure the product future enhancements are leveraged keeping our platform
latest vs industry practice and technology trends.
The message : Embrace SaaS! SaaS is a Ready Made Garment and not a tool that can be
tailored... Benefits: Standardization, Scalability and agility!
