The BKIN (“beacon”) Wayfinding System is a collaboration between a user experience designer and an industrial designer to create a hybrid physical/digital experience in the form of a low-cost, low impact network of information points designed for remote areas such as parks and rural locations with little or no cell reception. At a distance, it serves as an enhanced mile marker, while up close it provides maps, guides, urgent updates, and communication between units for safety.

In a bold move, MTA (Maryland Transit Administration) envisioned how well-crafted interactive kiosks could motivate rail car maintenance mechanics to do their jobs in a more efficient and effective way. They recognized that to sustain user engagement, the units had to be special, so they commissioned ScreenPlay InterActive (SPIA) to build custom software that would transform the ruggedized 46” touch screen units into iPad-like devices.

We're submitting our ticket search interface for consideration, as we feel that it is at the core of the SeatGeek user experience. We have created custom interactive maps for major venues across North America that allow us to map individual ticket listings down to the row level, and users can zoom in and pan around the map to explore the venue for the best ticket deals. We use a color-coded system that correlates with our Deal Score value algorithm to help fans tell at a quick glance which tickets are the best value in the stadium, and we have robust filtering and sorting tools that help users pare down a long list of tickets to only those which fit their exact criteria.

Tutorial Player is an iPad app that offers an interactive tutorial experience for learning how to use Adobe Photoshop. What is unique about Tutorial Player is that it creates an intelligent connection between a running instance of Photoshop (on the user's desktop or laptop computer) and the tablet. Using this connection, Tutorial Player automatically stays in sync with the user by advancing the tutorial from one step to the next as the user completes the appropriate actions in Photoshop. Also, if the user gets stuck and needs help, Tutorial Player can automatically perform any step (e.g., execute a command, make a selection) in Photoshop. Adobe Tutorial Player is the first step in more advanced instructional content that is adaptive and can offer real-time assistance. To make it easy to author interactive tutorials, we have also created a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop called Tutorial Builder. Mill Touch is a large format multi-touch experience showcasing over 1000 projects spanning 20 years. Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is the latest release of Android OS, an open-sourced mobile operating platform. In addition to being shipped on real-world devices, it serves as a showcase that inspires and guides the creation of mobile applications world-wide. It is designed to adapt to many different form factors and device classes with small and large screen sizes. Ice Cream Sandwich achieves its ambitious user experience goals of ease of use and positive emotional engagement through well-thought-out interaction design, consistent and delightful visuals, the highly specialized interface typeface Roboto and well-placed, subtle transitions that reinforce a sense of place within the OS. The ICS user experience was created in a user-centered, iterative design process. Overarching design goals were set collaboratively, inspired by ethnographic observation and behavior analysis of a large number of mobile device users. The user experience was refined and validated through extensive usability testing. Design principles that were recently shared with the public Android design community emerged as part of this process. ICS has received much praise in the press for its ease of use and dramatic user experience improvements in comparison to previous Android releases.
