The former captain of his college rugby team, Timothy Broas remains a fan of the exciting and
physically demanding sport.
As with many college and professional sports, it is important to prepare for the rugby season
through both strength and endurance training. Immediately before the start of the season, endurance and stamina should become the primary focus for rugby players. The best
exercises for building stamina include long-distance runs and wind sprints. The combination of these two exercises trains the body to run at various speeds for prolonged periods of time.
One of the primary ways to gain an advantage in rugby is increasing one’s agility. Rugby players
need to move quickly to avoid defenders and stop attackers. Many players use training grids to build agility. This exercise involves placing markers at varying distances, usually anywhere from 5 to 20 meters, and then running as quickly as possible
between the markers.
