Taking Diving to the Next Level - NAUI Master Diver Certification

Introduction

• Professor Maurice Prout instructs doctoral candidates at Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology. When not studying, teaching, or writing, Maurice Prout enjoys putting his NAUI scuba diving certification to use, preferably in the Cayman Islands.

For the most experienced divers, NAUI offers the Master Scuba Diver class and certification. This is for divers who are comfortable on open-water dives and ready to push their skills to the next level.

NAUI Master Diver Certification• Master diving certification requires candidates to complete a

minimum of eight open-water dives. These include dives at night or at other times when visibility is poor. Emergency and rescue procedures are covered, and divers are expected to perform underwater search-and-recovery tasks.

Additional elective dives include skin diving, environmental surveys, and boat dives. Divers who complete this course and earn the certification become eligible to take the NAUI FIT program, one of the last steps before becoming an instructor.
