What Is Disc Golf?

Disc Golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of hitting a ball into a hole, you throw a disc into a metal basket. The goal is the same: to complete the course in the fewest number of shots.

Who Can Play?

The simple answer is that everyone can.

Men and women, young and

old, families with small children-- all can play disc golf. Because disc golf is so easy to understand and enjoy, no one is excluded. Players merely match their pace to their capabilities and proceed from there.

Why Disc Golf at Junipero Serra Park?

• Let’s give people another reason to get outside and away from the TV.

• Environmentally low impact and does not require pesticides, herbicides, or any major construction

• Gifted in kind and all maintenance will be performed by the Peninsula Disc Golf Club on a scheduled basis.

• Estimated $45,000 - $100,000 a year in parking revenue and annual passes.

• New community of stakeholders will emerge, strengthening the park’s long term viability

• Opportunity to engage and teach a new segment of the population about natural and human history

Recreational Needs

Inexpensive form of recreation for people of all age and skill levels.

Important recreational resource for the schools surrounding the park, as well as for the community.

Peninsula Disc Golf Club will organize clinics, youth leagues, and tournaments.

For the growing number of disc golfers in the Bay Area, the presence of a 18-hole disc golf course on the peninsula would obviate the need to travel to play (to Golden Gate Park, Berkeley, or San Jose).

We Have Created a Plan that Addresses the Concerns of the Community

• 200 Foot Buffer from Private Property

• Planting hundreds of natives prior to construction

• wooden retaining walls, and paths of travel defined

• Terraces/Steps• Three basket locations

and will get rotated on a regular basis

• Scheduled work parties every other month

the sport of disc golf

Signs

Signs are very important to help users find their way through the course.

Each hole would have a sign

indicating the number, length, and par. Included within these signs would be interpretive information.

In addition, a rules sign, course map and information board would be installed before the first hole.

Park Safety

Influx of purposeful visitors would discourage the presence of individuals who are only in the park to cause mischief and perhaps engage in crime.

Course Designed with safety for all park users as utmost goal
