• Born in 1979

• Went to College at Georgetown University (1995); Earned Marketing degree

• Travelled a lot between states due to family

• Currently lives in Alexandria, VA

• Started as News Reporter for WCSC-TV; Then moved to News Anchor for WRDW-TV (8/1995-6/1997)(6/1997-7/2000)

• Worked as Training Manager for The Communication Center; Susan Peterson (8/2000-4/2004)

• Chief Diversity Officer of the USTA (4/2004-10/2010)

• Lead Trainer of Sports Talkers (8/2008-10/2010)

• Adjunct Professor for Georgetown University (12/2008-6/2011)

• President of Sports Talkers (8/2008-Present)

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER PATH?

• Being a part of Sports Talkers of Lothery & Associates combines her love of sports with her expertise in communications by providing media and diversity training to collegiate and professional athletes and teams.

• She has always had a passion to increase the diversity in Sports which led her to becoming the Chief Diversity Officer for the USTA

BIGGEST CHALLENGE TO THE JOB

• Starting out with working as the President of Sports Talkers, the biggest challenge was to be able to get the brand out there and to be able to spread the name to other people.

ADVICE TO GIVE TO FUTURE EMPLOYEES

• “I will quote BET’s Entrepreneur Award honoree B. Smith, “Be willing to climb a mountain of no’s to get to one yes.”

ABOUT ME

• Born on 7/3/1967 in Rockville Centre, NY

• Attended The Catholic University of America

• Played Baseball all 4 years as starting 2nd Basemen

• Has 2 children

• Was involved in a scandal when wife divorced

• Is involved in a yearly Christmas Rappelling down the Lanmark Building in Stamford

JOB TIMELINE

• Started as UPS Delivery Driver

• Got internship for the NY Yankees in Player Development in 1986 while also working security

• Promoted to Assistant General Manager in 1992

• Became Senior Vice-President and General Manager in 1998 at age of 30

WHY DID HE BECOME THE GM OF THE YANKEES

• He never wanted to be the General Manager. Cashman never worked hard to be where he is at today. He saw how much pressure was brought on the General Manager when he was the Assistant GM and never really wanted to be put under that pressure.

• Never imagined working in baseball when he graduated.

• Selected as Major League Baseball Executive of the Year in 2009

• Named Crain’s New York Business 40 under 40 List

• Involved in the developing of the video game MLB Front Office Manager

BIGGEST CHALLENGE• Having to field a winning team

• Don’t get comfortable with your position

• Having to deal with George Steinbrenner

• Having to deal with the NY Media

• Long Days of work 365 days a year

ADVICE TO GIVE

• Don’t cheat yourself

• Work Hard in everything you do

• When you work hard, people will notice and open doors for you to take

• Don’t view yourself as higher than someone else; give everyone the same respect
