The reader for this

magazine is much

older than I

thought they

would be aiming

at. As the majority

of its readers are

college

graduates, this

means they are

over the age of

17. I thought that

the style of the

magazine suited a

younger audience

but it obviously

attracts a different

age group due to

the overall

content.

I didn’t expect

71% of it’s readers

to be between the

ages of 25-54 as I

think the

magazine is suited

more to

teenagers.

This information included in the

media pack also shows that the magazine targets people of a average income. This tells me that my

magazine will probably be aimed at the same group of people, but at a younger age. So their parents

would be purchasing the magazine for them, but they would still be coming from a middle class background

where it wouldn’t be a stretch to buy the magazine.

Although this magazine has a different age group target than mine, I think they are similar with the content and therefore I can use it as a guide to who I need to attract and the type of information to include.

It also contains information about:

Their 2011 schedule, this shows people when the

closing dates and due dates for applying for

advertisements are. It lets people know that they

are organised and know what they are doing,

and is helpful for themselves as it lets them keep

up to date.

It has information about mechanical

requirements, this tells you about the

type of files they can use within the

magazine, and also the format of them.

It says what will result in the best

resolution photos and designs. And also

how to submit the adverts when you

want to. All of the information included

makes it easier for the companies to

place adverts in the magazine, which

means they are getting more money

through doing so.

I think this media pack is reasonably small

and doesn’t include as many pages of

information as others might, as it is only 7

pages.

Another thing included in the

media pack is a page dedicated to ‘advertising terms & conditions’. This will be there to help and provide information for

those people or businesses that wish to use the magazine to promote their products. It tells them what the rates

are and how they can go about getting their adverts into it. It also tells them how often the magazine is distributed and to where, this lets them

know how much their advert may be seen and if it is worth doing it.

The design of the

media pack is very

basic, it is laid out in

columns, of which

make it look

sophisticated. It

contains a lot of

text that is in a

simple font. There

are barely any

colours used, other

than the green that

is within the

‘Billboard’ logo.

This is effective as it

is not meant to be

attractive, it is just

meant to be

helpful. I think it is

good that it sticks

to the same colour

scheme though.

There is more

information about

the adverts that you

can place within the

magazine. This page

shows the page

dimensions which

can be helpful to

those who want to

know for any reason.

They are displayed

in a simple way with

diagrams that show

the space, then the

dimensions are

placed underneath,

it is clear and easy

to understand.

I think they have

done this as the

bigger space you

want, the more you

will have to pay for

it. As it means they

will have less space

for their own

content.

The editorial

highlights show what the main focus are of the magazine in certain time periods. This gives a clear plan of what

the contents of the magazine will be so you know what to expect, it also lets them stick to a plan so that they include everything they wish to within

2011. I think this is a very good idea as they may have planned it so that the focus in certain months fits the time of year,

which will attract a bigger audience.
