This is the 10th year that the MCSOA has offered scholarships. Including this year, we have raised $7,600 dollars and given scholarships to 35 student athletes coming from the schools within Manitowoc County. This year there were 31 applicants representing each of the 8 schools in the county. This year’s committee was made up of Steve Walsh, Dave Nickles, Steve Sanders, Brian Ulness and Jon Krause. Once again this year we have another great group of student athletes to add to our list of scholarship winners! This years winners are: (Each will be receiving a $250 Scholarship from the MCSOA) Forrest Fenlon, Valders - Forrest has been an active member of the MCSOA for four years. Colton participated in football, basketball and baseball at Michicot High School Anthony Hynek, Reedsville - Anthony is the epitome of a "teamplayer". activities, but without the

bouncing often involved in

static stretching. Static

stretching involves

stretching while the body is

at rest, by stretching to a

point of tension and holding

that stretch for a few

seconds to a few minutes.

Static stretching, where you

hold a position for more than

30 seconds in order to elon-

gate the muscle, is still safe.

In fact, it should be done

AFTER the activity.

This year, Krystal Otto from

Rehab plus came and gave a

great presentation on

stretching. She talked about

two kids of stretches,

Dynamic and Static. So what

is the difference? Should we

use both? Is one better than

the other?

Dynamic stretching involves

movements (such as wide

arm circles) that more

closely resemble what the

body does during sports

Dynamic stretching is able to

accomplish many things. It is

able to increase blood flow, in-

crease the range of motion, in-

crease your awareness of your

joint position, and improve your

athletic performance. That is

why you see everyone from am-

ateur athletes to the NFL and

NBA performing it. It has be-

come a necessary part of warm

up.

So that being said, which is bet-

ter to use? They both are! Make

sure you utilize both stretching

techniques in your pregame

warm up activities.
